District Conference

Our 2010 district conference will be held from 29 April to 1 May at Ingwenyama Lodge in White River.

Believe it or not, the organising committee, under the able guidance of Past Assistant Governor Brian Regan, has already started meeting and planning. This is our district’s last conference before consolidation and the Rotary Club of White River is committed to make it a memorable one, with inspiring presentations of what our clubs have achieved. You can already let us know if you have an inspiring presentation you would like to share with us. It’s going to be three days of quality fellowship and loads of fun. We have a few surprises up our
sleeve, and can lift the lid just a little for you.

Feature

A new feature will be short (3-5 minute) presentations on Magic Rotary Moments. Have you experienced a magic moment in Rotary - maybe more than one? It can happen at any time: during a community service project, a friendship exchange, a fellowship event, even a club meeting. It is something that you will never forget – that brief moment of elation/emotion/joy/fun/humour that is like a shooting star in the firmament. It may bring a lump to your throat - the unspeakable joy of the recipient of a wheelchair, the excitement of a child receiving a gift at a Rotary Christmas party, a community dancing for joy because of the gift of a clean water supply. But it can also be a moment of extraordinary fun at a fellowship event or a remarkable incident during a club meeting. It could even be something that is hilarious. There is no limit to Rotary’s magic!

If you have experienced such a magic moment, and captured it on camera, come and tell us about it at the 2010 conference and show us the slide/s. Let’s get an inspiring collection of Magic Rotary Moments together to encourage and motivate us.

We are starting to collect this material already. Send your Magic Rotary Moment slides and brief descriptions to DG Albie as soon as you can. If you have nothing available, be on the lookout for magic moments in Rotary during the current year and be sure to have your camera ready! We would love to share your experience.

Hatter's Party
We can already lift the lid on the theme evening on Friday 30 April for you – it’s going to be a Mad Hatter’s Party, so start getting your hats ready. Whether you stun us with the beauty of your headgear, embarrass your partner with a ridiculous creation, or simply wear your favourite beanie or bonnet, it’s all going to contribute to a fun-filled evening. There may even be prizes for the different categories, so be sure to take this very, very seriously!!

We will keep you posted on developments, but don’t expect us to reveal all before 29/04/10! Bear in the mind that the Lowveld is a special place – if you plan properly, you will be able to make this into a memorable family weekend. Plan in advance to include a trip to the Kruger National Park and time to experience the stunning vistas of the Graskop/Sabie area. The golf courses in the area are exceptional.
