The 2009-2010 Presidential Citation
Each year, the RI President Elect publishes a list of activities, which, when completed by clubs, results
in them receiving a certificate referred to as a Presidential Citation. Participation by clubs is voluntary,
but is highly recommended. The Presidential Citation provides guidelines for activities that
contribute to a successful and fulfilling year.
There is only one compulsory activity to qualify for the Presidential Citation this year, that is, clubs
must achieve a net increase of at least one member by 31 March 2010. For the rest, there are wide
choices. President Kenny has listed six categories of activities which reflect the priorities of the RI
Strategic Plan 2007-10. To qualify for the 2009-10 Presidential Citation, clubs must undertake and
complete an activity from three of these categories (three activities in total) between 1 July 2009 and
31 March 2010.
The six categories are as follows (the number of activities listed under each is indicated in brackets):
• Eradicate Polio (2)
• Advance the recognition and public image of Rotary (3)
• Increase Rotary’s capacity to provide service (4)
• Expand membership globally in both numbers and quality (4)
• Emphasize Rotary’s unique vocational service commitment (3)
• Optimize leadership talents within RI (2)
You need to complete only three of the 18 listed activities – as easy as pie!! Presidents-Elect received
the Presidential Citation brochure, which contains all the relevant details, at POETS. Once your club
has met the requirements, complete the certification form (also supplied at POETS) and submit to DG
Albie not later than 31 March 2010.
No doubt you will find that some of the activities fall within the normal programme of your club and
require no additional or special effort. Why not go for it this year? A Presidential Citation is a feather
in any club’s cap and something that all its members can be proud of.
